Colonel S Dinny (Retd) served as an Indian Army Infantry (RAJPUT Regiment) officer for more than 20 years. He has first-hand combat operational experiences after having served in multiple tenures in Kashmir valley, North East India and along the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh. In Kashmir, he served both along the Line of Control and in Rashtriya Rifles over three tenures. He was selected on deputation with United Nations in Congo as an Indian Military Observer. He was the Commanding Officer of an Infantry Battalion at Ladakh (Pangong Tso) for two years.

Col. Dinny was posted as a faculty in Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington, Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. He was nominated for the prestigious Higher Defence Management Course. He has an M Phil in Defence & Strategic Studies from Madras University. He also completed a Graduate Certificate Course in Strategic Studies from Takshashila Institution, Bangalore and undertook the Kautilya Fellowship Programme with India Foundation. He regularly contributes articles to English and Malayalam newspapers, besides participating in seminars and panel discussions on English, Hindi and Malayalam TV channels and web portals. He is a former Editor of Chanakya Forum, a web portal dealing with strategic affairs.
